Course Description

This course provides participants with a basic understanding of accounting principles, financial statement preparation and analysis, and budgeting and cost behavior within parish constitutions and Archdiocesan guidelines.

Neil holds bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and International Business from Illinois State University and a Master of Professional Accounting degree from Saint Louis University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). In 2008, after 15 years of full-time employment in the financial services industry—primarily within the agricultural mortgage origination and servicing sector—Neil began his academic career at Saint Louis University. He has taught courses in introductory financial and managerial accounting, cost accounting, and a graduate course in financial reporting. Neil also works as a consultant for his former employer where he continues to gain “real world” experience that he uses to inform and enrich his classes. Neil’s professional experience includes financial statement preparation and analysis, account reconciliation, interpreting and implementing accounting policy, developing and documenting accounting procedures, developing and implementing system enhancements, and managing projects for senior management. Neil is very active in his parish, Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Shiloh, IL, where he is a trustee, member of the finance council, and an ex-officio member of the parish council. Neil is also actively involved with his children’s school, St. Clare Catholic School in O’Fallon, IL. He has served on special building committees for the parish and St. Clare School, both of which have experienced significant growth in recent years. Neil is married with three children who keep him busy every waking moment. He enjoys playing basketball, running, coaching his kid’s basketball and baseball teams, and watching them enjoy all of their activities.
